Introductory Flying Lessons
I was lucky enough to be given an introductory flying lesson from Virgin Experience Days a few months ago and was absolutely chuffed. I chose to fly at Turweston near Northampton but the voucher was good up and down the country. On arrival I was taken to sign some papers (temporary membership to the air club I think) and then introduced to my tutor.
When we got in the plane he explained what all of the knobs and buttons were for but told me not to worry about what they were as he would control them, all I had to do was fly the plane with the steering wheel when he got it in the air. We actually had a little bit of trouble getting the plane going!. The pilot was calm and explained that one of the spark plugs was ’sooty’ and needed clearing, he called the flight engineer based on site who did the business and then we were away.
Once we’d climbed to a few thousand feet the pilot explained to me where we were in relation to the airfield, what was below us and then told me I could take the controls. He taught me where to position the nose of the plane and how to use the horizon as a guide as to where I was pointing the plane to high or too low. It was brilliant. I flew the plane for about 20 minutes with ease and the pilot was really good at explaining what local sights we could see.
I also flew over Silverstone where two cars were practising. They looked like matchbox cars from a few thousand feet! Then when my time came to an end the pilot took over using his controls and began to descend back to the airfield – a perfect landing and we were back on terra firma. Finally the pilot showed me how to use the pedals on the plane to steer it while taxiing, but he had to take over as I started steering us towards a parked plane, ah well can’t be good at flying and landing after one lesson eh?
This introductory flying lesson was fantatstic and definitely inspired me to want to do it again.
Ghost Hunting Experience
“Whatever you do, don’t cross the beams” – ok so these ghost hunting experiences aren’t going to involve slimer or backpacks with laser weapons on them but it will usually include a medium, a property that the medium hasn’t been to before and you, for the night!
Learn specialist ghost hunting techniques that you can use on late night vigils, take part in workshops but most of all, remember to stay awake!
Some ghost hunting experiences (like the ones from Getting Personal) include a local historian who will try to provide historical evidence to what the medium feels or sees.

Lamborghini Gallardo experiences
Let’s talk about supercars, no let’s talk about one of the worlds best supercars – the Lamborghini Gallardo. The Audi R8 is based on the Gallardo but to avoid directly competing with each other the Gallordo kept the V10 engine while the audi ‘only’ has the V8 version.

Ferrari 360 driving at Silverstone
Which part of this experience is best? Driving at Silverstone, or driving a Ferrari 360? Both parts are great and go hand in hand. Nowhere else seems to match the excitment of Silverstone’s famous hanger straight.
If Formula One really has turned it’s back on Silverstone then it is a shame. You however can drive a Ferrari 360 down the straight – Bernie Ecclestone can’t take that away from you! Drive A Ferrari at Silverstone
There are two Ferrari models at Silverstone, the Ferrari 360 and the Ferrari F355, the majority are for the 360 though as they are the most fun! Some of the more expensive experiences above include a drive in another car as well such as the Lotus Exige.
When you arrive at Silverstone make yourself known to the instructors. They’ll probably guess which one of your party is going to the drive a Ferrari 360 though because of the huge grin on your face. Then, when your turn comes, you’ll get in the passenger seat and the instructor will show you how to drive the 360 around Silverstones sweeping corners and teach you the best line to take in to the corners. Then it’s your turn.
Check with whichever retailer you book with but generally you get 3 laps a silversone circuit with the instructor on hand to advise on how you can get even more speed out of the beast that is the Ferrari 360. It really will suprise you what a great drive you get and nothing can prepare you for the acceleration.

Sphereing Experiences
How do you explain to someone what Sphering is? I thought I’d use a hamster in a ball example but that doesn’t quite cut it – the hamster is in control of his ball! With Sphereing you are harnessed in side a huge inflatable ball (either alone or with a friend) and then you are rolled down a very steep hill! Your stomach will let you know it’s confused, your brain will do the same but the adrenline will kick them both into shape and tell them you’re having more fun than you’ve ever known! Aqua Sphereing
Aqua sphering is slightly easier to explain now that you know about ‘normal’ sphereing. This time you get into the same massive sphere but this time it’s got 30 litres of water inside to keep you company. You sit in an inner chamber and are not harnessed!.
Next time you put your washing machine on, take a look inside and then imagine that being rolled down a really big hill – that’s aqua sphereing that is! Warning: you may get wet while aqua sphereing.

If you’ve never sat in a single seat racing car before then prepare for a shock – you are low to the ground, sat right on top of the engine and the luxury of your Mondeo estate seems very far away. As driving experiences go the Motor Racing Thrill is very well setup. You get the usual instructor briefing with explanations about the car, on track safety and advice on when to use the brakes (remember this bit, it will save them raking the gravel pits!). When all of the safety bits are out of the way you get to take a seat in your car and the driving experience begins in earnest.
To start you off you follow a pace car for 8 minutes. Don’t worry though, unless you’re Jenson Button the pace car will be plenty fast enough to start you off – and it also teaches you where to brake. If they let you out without the pace car you’d be off the track at the end of the first straight, guaranteed (these cars are that fast).
Then once you’ve done your 8 minutes of pace car led circuits you get 10 minutes of freedom, watch the pace car pull away and away you go. Imagine yourself racing for the world title at Silverstone, the crowd cheering your name, you overtaking the leader just before you pass the chequered flag – Champion! oh but remember to brake!!!
The safety of the event is paramount and there are fully qualfied staff and marshalls on hand at all times to keep things safe and everyone happy.

Audi R8 Driving Experience
The Audi R8 is the car that everyone looks at as they drive past my local Audi garage and it’s the one that everyone has look at just before they buy an Audi A3 
Everyone likes the look of it and everyone would like to see an R8 parked on their drive but, alas, they cost a fair bit, the insurance is massive and they drink fuel like crazy.
But hey, don’t worry, you can still get behind the wheel and drive one at a race track near you!
Typically, the Audi R8 Experience day will begin with a briefing for you from a qualified driver, then you’ll get a couple of laps where the driver will take you round (at a good pace!) and then, when you’re fully briefed, you get to drive the Audi R8 – Rock on!

You need to be aged over 17 and hold a full drivers license for at least a year before you get to sit in the Audi R8’s drving seat but once you’ve proven that then you can take control of one of the best looking cars on the market.
